HARRISBURG (October 3, 2023) – In an address today before the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, Senator Lisa M. Boscola (D-Northampton) emphasized the critical link between political climate and business prosperity. Acknowledging the diverse audience from across the Commonwealth, Senator Boscola expressed gratitude for the opportunity to address the gathering.

“In my two plus decades serving in the General Assembly, the last 4 or 5 years have been the most difficult,” stated Senator Boscola. “Our political climate directly impacts business climate. By cleaning up our political climate a bit, we can improve our business climate a lot.”

Senator Boscola, a proponent of the Forward Movement, highlighted the negative impacts of hyper-partisanship on governance and policy discussions. She stressed the need for collaboration between Republicans and Democrats, as well as the inclusion of Independents in the primary process to mitigate extreme influences.

Reflecting on successful bipartisan efforts, Senator Boscola cited the reduction of the Corporate Net Income Tax as an example of positive policy outcomes achieved through collaboration. She also underscored the significance of comprehensive policies, including energy policy and permitting reform, to foster economic activity across the state.

Addressing concerns about the permitting process, Senator Boscola remarked, “Our permitting process is too fractured, too hidden, and too uncertain.” She expressed optimism about bipartisan efforts in the Senate to make permitting more transparent and accountable.

In concluding her speech, Senator Boscola urged stakeholders to stay focused, collaborative, and determined to bring about positive changes. “I am optimistic about both our ability to improve our political climate and our permitting process simply because people are talking about it. There is real energy behind both policy goals.”
