Bethlehem, PA – January 10, 2020 – State Senator Lisa M. Boscola announced today that grants totaling $50,000 have been awarded to two local school districts through the Teacher in the Workplace program by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Catasauqua Area School District and Salisbury Township School District will each be receiving $25,000.
“It’s critical that we provide classroom teachers the tools to connect their students with the skills that are needed in today’s economy,” Boscola stated. “These grants will allow teachers to connect with local employers that will better prepare them to educate their students for in demand careers and put students on a career path whether it leads to post-secondary education or directly into the job market.”
Statewide, 92 local education agencies were awarded $25,000 for a total of $2.2 million in grants. The Teacher in the Workforce grants from PDE are funded through federal money made available through Title II, Part A, of the Every Student Succeeds Act and from L&I through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act. Additional Teacher in the Workplace grants made available through the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will be announced soon.
