Bethlehem (March 16, 2023) – State Senator Lisa Boscola today announced state funding totaling $9,714,755 for projects in the 18th Senatorial District through a new Statewide Local Share Account (LSA) – from gaming funds and the Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF).
“I fight hard to make sure our local communities get their fair share of statewide dollars to complete priority projects” Boscola said. “These projects have been identified by local government leaders as important to improving the quality of life in their communities,” Boscola added.
Boscola said she was pleased to work with her colleagues in the Lehigh Valley legislative delegation to secure the state funds, approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), for investment in the following projects:
Statewide Local Share Account (LSA)
- Bethlehem Revitalization & Improvement Authority ($1,000,000 LSA) for the rehabilitation of elevators within the Bethlehem Steel SGO;
- Bethlehem Township Municipal Authority ($1,000,000 LSA) for Phase 1 of a flood mitigation project located in Bethlehem Township, PA;
- Nazareth Borough ($700,000 LSA) for the purchase of a pumper fire engine to be used withing the Borough of Nazareth;
- Freemansburg Borough ($620,600 LSA) for the construction of a community center within Freemansburg Borough;
- Pen Argyl Borough ($400,000 LSA) for playground improvements at Weona Park for engineering and construction costs;
- Hellertown Borough ($396,767 LSA) for improvements at Gregory Park;
- City of Easton ($377,392 LSA) for traffic calming and streetscape improvements along Wood Avenue in the West Ward Neighborhood;
- Wind Gap Borough ($375,000 LSA) for phase two improvements to their multi-use trail in and around the park along East Third Street and South Lehigh Avenue in Wind Gap;
- Palmer Township ($300,000 LSA) on behalf of the Brown & Lynch American Legion Post #9, for the construction of a new pavilion building in Palmer Township;
- Roseto Borough ($300,000 LSA) for Columbia Fire Company #1 to purchase an E-One Ford F550/4 Door Air/Light fire apparatus;
- Upper Nazareth Township ($300,000 LSA) for an addition to the municipal building in Upper Nazareth Township;
- Upper Nazareth Township ($296,924 LSA) for the purchase of the two new dump trucks and a hi flow skid steer loader;
- West Easton Borough ($285,297) for the removal and repair work for two trestle bridges – the demolition of the failed and deteriorated Iron Street & Spring Street bridges;
- Bethlehem Township ($200,000 LSA) on behalf of the Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company (BTVFC) Emergency Medical Service, for the purchase of a new ambulance;
- Lower Saucon Township ($200,000 LSA) to replace playground equipment at the Town Hall Park;
- Palmer Township ($138,433 LSA) on behalf of Suburban EMS for the purchase of a new ambulance;
- Tatamy Borough ($138,352 LSA) for the purchase of a utility truck for borough maintenance;
- Lower Mount Bethlehem Township ($100,000 LSA) for the replacement of the existing tennis courts located within the township;
- Wilson Borough ($75,159 LSA) for the purchase of a fire safety utility vehicle;
- Stockertown Borough ($69,4897 LSA) for the purchase of a vehicle a Compact Truck Loader with a snow blower, to replace the Borough’s 2008 truck loader;
- Palmer Township ($58,592 LSA) on behalf of Suburban EMS, for the purchase of a transit van;
- Nazareth Borough ($40,000 LSA) for the purchase of a 2022 GMC Sierra with plow attachment;
Multimodal Transportation Fund
- Borough of Stockertown ($100,000 MTF) Lincoln Avenue Reconstruction;
- City of Bethlehem ($692,750 MTF) Broad Street Active Transportation – Phase 1 – for traffic calming and pedestrian safety improvements along Broad Street;
- Freemansburg Borough ($200,000 MTF) Pedestrian & Vehicular Safety Improvements as Part of the Main Street Revitalization Project;
- Wind Gap Borough ($200,000 MTF) Male Road Bridge Replacement & Pedestrian Improvements;
- Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority ($1,150,000 MTF) Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) Access Road Safety & Accessibility Improvements Project.
Funding for the projects was approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority Board. The Local Share Accounts (LSA) were established by the Pennsylvania Racehorse Development and Gaming Act. The funds are generated by the state’s gaming facilities. The Multimodal Transportation Fund was created as part of Act 89 to promote economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available throughout the Commonwealth.
