Bethlehem, March 16, 2018 – State Senator Lisa M. Boscola today announced a total of nearly $5 million in state solar energy grants for local projects.

“I’m encouraged by the economic and environmental promise of solar energy,” Boscola said. “I will continue to seek state funds to help partner businesses with Pennsylvania’s growing solar energy sector.”

The projects are as follows:

·         $2.816 million for Sol Systems, LLC to purchase and install a 3.64 MW roof-mounted solar array for an Amazon, LLC., warehouse in Palmer Township. The system will generate 4.758 million kWh each year, accounting for a fifth of the facility’s energy consumption. The total project cost is $5.632 million.

·         $453,765 for MCS Industries, Inc., to purchase and install an 895-kW roof-mounted solar array at its manufacturing facility in Palmer Township. The system will offset 95 percent of the facility’s electricity consumption. The total project cost is $1.5 million.

·         $554,272 for Spray-Tek Inc. to purchase and install a 481.975 kW solar photovoltaic system at its Bethlehem facility. The system will generate 587,344 kWh of electricity per year. The total project cost is $1.1 million.

·         $290,036 for Service Tire Truck Center to purchase and install a 330.5 kW roof-mounted solar array at its Bethlehem retreading store. The system will produce 410,512 kWh annually, offsetting 21 percent of the store’s electricity consumption. The total project cost is $844,524.

·         $421,348 for Sun Spring 2, LLC, Reading, to purchase and install a solar PV power system at Boscov’s Lehigh Valley Mall store in Whitehall Township. The 714.15 kW rooftop solar PV system will be able to generate 909.874 kWh of electricity per year. The total project cost is $1.2 million. Boscov’s will purchase the power through a 25-year power purchase agreement.

·         $371,250 for NEE Investments, LLC., to purchase and install a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system at the Bethlehem Authority’s water filtration plant. The system will be installed in an adjacent field and generate 924,000 kWh annually – accounting for 100 percent of the facility’s annual usage. The total project cost is $1.282 million.

The Solar Energy Program funds were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) at its meeting today in Harrisburg.

Last year, Gov. Tom Wolf reopened the Solar Energy Program, offering loan funds to promote the use of solar energy in Pennsylvania. The CFA expanded eligibility in the Solar Energy Program to include grants that can be used to promote the generation and use of solar energy and the manufacture or assembly of solar equipment in Pennsylvania.
