BETHLEHEM (December 18, 2023) – State Senator Lisa M. Boscola submitted public comment Friday on the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) Mail Processing Facility Review of processing operations in the Lehigh Valley urging the USPS to fully modernize and staff the Lehigh Valley’s Processing & Distribution Center to address delayed and lost mail instead of cutting back services that will lead to even more mail delivery issues in Pennsylvania’s third largest metropolitan region.
“The Lehigh Valley is the 3rd largest region in the state. Our location is an asset and is why we are seeing so much economic activity here. As such and in the final analysis, we should be a full-service processing and distribution site for mail. It is not only our residents who need mail on time, but it is a matter of economic importance to the region and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”
Boscola specifically raised concerns to reports that the Lehigh Valley would no longer process originating mail, but instead outgoing mail would be trucked to Harrisburg. She stated that “there is no way this proposal to the delayed mail problem is a solution” and that the real solution to the delayed and lost mail problem is that the Lehigh Valley Center “must be fully modernized to ensure that the residents of the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos receive their mail and receive it on time.”
Boscola ended her public comment by urging the “USPS to do further analysis that will better address the need to ensure that the Lehigh Valley residents and businesses receive their mail in a timely and cost-efficient manner.”
