HARRISBURG — A group of Democratic lawmakers will announce a package of bills aimed at increasing voter participation in Pennsylvania.

While citizens are becoming more engaged in legislative issues on the state and national level, voter turnout on Election Day often lags due to administrative barriers to voting.

Pennsylvania’s election laws are some of the most antiquated and restrictive in the nation. The lawmakers say Pennsylvania must join the growing number of states that are increasing voter options and making it easier for individuals to exercise their right to vote.

Their bills address automatic voter registration, same-day voter registration, time off for voting, early voting, notification of voter registration eligibility for younger Pennsylvanians, voting by mail and no excuse absentee voting.
